When it comes to choosing a cover for the tub of your Next Gen Ranger it can be a little overwhelming. Here are some things to consider before deciding what's right for you.
1. How you want to use your ranger
2. Security
3. Budget / Price
How do you want to set up your next gen ranger?
Probably the most important thing to consider before choosing a cover is how you want to use your ranger. Did you want to set it up to carry your work tools or did you want to set it up for camping? do you just want to cover things so they don't get wet?
If you want to use your ranger just to throw some things in the tub and keep them protected from the elements (with no security) the best and cheapest option will be the soft tonneau cover. It will still serve as a theft deterrent but its main purpose will be to keep things dry and covered. They are also handy as you don't need to tie loose objects down. If you are considering a soft tonneau we would recommend the EGR tonneau pictured below . (Click Here)
Security
When you need security you start to look at lockable covers like the roll covers and hard lids. Each cover will have its pros and cons but the main thing to consider here is height of your cargo. Will the hardlid / roll top be able to lock with what you want to carry in it? If what you carry is constantly over size then you may want to opt for a canopy to allow lockability with added height.
If you want to carry things that will store mostly below the height of the tub a hardlid / roll top will be suitable for you. Do your research on if you want the option to store anything on top of your hard lid / roll top as some can come load rated and have options for racks / accessories to be put onto them. For example the EGR Loadsheild for Next Gen Ranger is rated to 100kg, as well as the EGR Roll Trac Roll Top. the EGR Roll Trac also has racking options for things such as ladder racks etc. (sold separately)
Budget / Price, what's worth it?
Now everyone's different when it comes to what's worth it for their Ute. When it comes to usability the soft tonneau is easily the best bang for buck option. 2nd to that in my opinion is the roll top / Roll Trac as they allow you to simply roll the lid forward if you have something over the height of the tub, something that isn't that possible with a hard lid and often times needs to be removed if you want to do a tip run or move furniture etc. Like the hard lid the canopy is also a little limited in this regard. Things that are taller than the canopy are simply not possible to carry unless you strap them to the roof. The canopy is also the most expensive option out of the lot but they are more suited for a camping set up or someone who has tools that they want accessible and secure.
